estimated time to build quote form

Hi Everyone,

I have a roofing client who is looking to have an online quote form they would use onsite to create a quote for their clients in essentially realtime. I've only built some basic forms with Formidable and I'm not quite sure how much time it would approximately take. I need to provide them with a cost of how much it would be, but I'm not sure. Some general guidance in the best approach to take would help in me coming up with a cost, and would be much appreciated. The general details for the form are below.

The form would start with 3 options for the type of roofing job it is: Roof, Repairs or Extras.

If Roof is selected, there are 2 options: Sloped or Flat. If Flat is selected there are 4 application types. Whether it is Sloped or one of the Flat types, they would have a price per sq. ft.

If Repairs or Extras are selected, there would be a list of repairs to select with their associated prices, and a potential to have a quantity or similar field. I'm thinking checkboxes that when checked add to the subtotal / total.

Then regardless of the job type, there will be Man Hours which will have at least one skilled certified roofer and the however many installers. This will require different hourly pay for the certified roofer and installers, as well as input for the number of hours for the project.

I don't think there's enough detail here to give an accurate estimate. Quotes are very subjective and depend on many factors. For example, how much profit do you want to earn? What is the value of your time? What is the skill level of the developer doing the work? If the price fixed or hourly? How many revisions will you allow? How many lookup tables will the system require? How will the lookup tables be updated?

A highly skilled developer can probably do something like this in one-half to a full day once the requirements are fully known. A less skilled developer will take longer. Any suggestion of time frame is only a guess.

Thank you for the reply, but I wasn't really looking for a price / hours quote. I completely understand quotes are different for everyone dependent factors you mentioned.

I really just looking for some general guidance in the best approach to take, which would help in me coming up with a cost, and would be much appreciated.

It's hard to estimate something like this unless they provide you with a mock-up or something that you just need to implement since working with the client to get to that point can be highly variable. The great thing about Formidable is you can do exactly that. It's great for rapid-prototyping things like that so that you and the client are on the same base and also gives you a chance to guide decision making to help control the complexity for things like budget or time constraints.

I've got a project estimator that I've created shown here -> http://www.techmavenconsulting.com/project-estimator/

Feel free to ask questions.
