I suppose you could create a lookup for country codes based on an available list, but I see some holes in doing this type of lookup via IP address.
How are you going to handle countries where you are not permitted to track IP addresses due to privacy laws?
How are you going to know what country the IP address is from when that information isn't available at the form level during data entry?
What if the data being entered is from a person traveling outside of their home domain and the IP address is from a different country, for example a citizen that lives in Japan, but is visiting Hawaii?

That is a very good call! Thank you I didn't realise that those would've been the pain points in using a country-coded phone number. Especially with the part where you might not be able to track the IP Address of the country e.g. Germany.
Given the fact that it may also be more trouble to the business owner having to call a number that would get the wrong area code in the first place.
