Lookup field is not keeping the selected value on edit

I have a lookup dropdown field that properly works when creating the entry. When I open it to edit on the front-end, however, the lookup dropdown reverts to the "please select" option. Is this a common issue others are having?

Anyone know a fix?

Hi Bryan,
It should work correctly in edit mode. It looks like the record which has the value you selected is deleted in the other form where you are loading lookup values. If that is not the case, share a screenshot of your lookup field settings
