Problem using ":" character in text fields

Hey all,

First of all sorry for my English, I'm Spanish 🙂

I'm having problems with forms if the user uses ":" in a text field (Example: Real World Data: Análisis de pacientes con cáncer epitelial de ovario tratadas con Bevacizumab en primera línea de tratamiento). In that case, at the time of sending the form the user gets a "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access on this server."

It happens with all types of text fields.

I have deactivated all plugins and the problems persists. I refresh the permalinks configuration and they continue having that problem. File htaccess seems ok.

I'm using the last version of the plugin and also the last version of WordPress.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not seeing this on my end. That is going to be a tough one. You've tried the default theme as well? Do you have any logs you can review?

Hey Bobby,

Thanks for the reply. It's strange, but the problem is in "Data:". If I used another word that error dissapears. It's not possible to use "ata:" neither.

Any idea? :( Users of the web used a lot that expression in that field ("Real World Data:"), so it's a problem for me.

Thanks in advance.

I can't reproduce the problem on my end. You must have a plugin, theme, or other code running that isn't apparent to you. Or maybe your host is causing the issue.

^Click on my name above. Send me an email from my developer page and provide me admin login information and I can take a look.

@Ventura - this is a long shot but I thought I'd share a solution that Steph gave me when I had a somewhat similar issue last year. Here's what she told me to do:

It looks like your database collation needs to be adjusted. Can you change all the Formidable tables to utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci? Also, go to the frm_item_metas table and make sure the meta_value column is also set to utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci.

@Bobby, you know more about this stuff than I do so you can say if you think this may be the issue or not!

I cannot speak on the collation of the DB being the problem.

Hey esadmin and Bobby,

Finally I could solve the problem, it was a ModSecurity rule :)

Thanks for your replies and help :)
