Use URL in view as a link, do not display the URL

I have a form field that is a URL.  For space reasons I can't display the entire URL, so I would like to display a simple word with the URL making that word a link. For example:   <href="[x]">Click</a>

Why does the above not work??

If that's your code, you're missing the "a" before the href.
