Why two formidable plugins?
I just went to update one of my sites today and after doing so I found that I now have both the free and pro version showing up in my plugins section. Why is that? There were enough problems in the past, clicking update and finding my pro version had been downgraded to free, and I don't want yet more. I also don't want additional plugins added to my install that I didn't ask for.
I tried, but am unable to deactivate the free plugin. Surely I should be able to control and specify my own plugins?

I'm still not seeing the benefit or reasoning for two plugins. The explanation in the link above talks about problems in the past with the "pro" version updating to the free or lite version and screwing things up, but I don't see why two plugins are needed to solve that issue. Now there are two plugins that need to be maintained and updated for everyone that has a pro license.
Why not just create one plugin that operates in lite mode without a license? That would seem to be a much easier way to maintain things. Then you also don't have to worry about some type of mismatch where a the lite plugin version isn't compatible with a particular pro plugin version.
